DIY Mini Power Bank
Materials Needed:
- 18650 lithium-ion rechargeable batteries (1 or more depending on capacity)
- Battery holder for 18650 batteries
- USB charging module with a protection circuit
- Small project enclosure or case
- Power switch
- USB cable
- Soldering iron and solder
- Wire
- Hot glue gun
- Multimeter
- Heat shrink tubing (optional)
- Velcro or double-sided tape (for mounting)
Tools Needed:
- Screwdriver
- Wire stripper
- Heat gun (for heat shrink tubing)
Steps:
1. Prepare the Battery Holder
a. Insert the 18650 batteries into the battery holder. b. Make sure the batteries are inserted in the correct orientation.
2. Solder the USB Charging Module
a. Solder the positive (red) and negative (black) wires from the USB charging module to the corresponding terminals on the battery holder. b. Ensure a secure connection and insulate the soldered joints.
3. Connect the Power Switch
a. Solder the power switch to the positive (red) wire between the battery holder and the USB charging module. b. Make sure the switch is in the off position during this step.
4. Test the Circuit
a. Turn on the power switch. b. Use a multimeter to check the output voltage of the USB charging module. It should be in the range of 5V.
5. Mount Components in the Enclosure
a. Place the battery holder, USB charging module, and power switch inside the project enclosure. b. Secure them in place using hot glue or other suitable methods.
6. Connect the USB Cable
a. Cut the USB cable and strip the wires. b. Solder the USB cable to the output terminals of the USB charging module. c. Insulate the soldered joints with heat shrink tubing if available.
7. Final Assembly
a. Close the project enclosure and secure it with screws. b. Ensure that the power switch and USB port are accessible.
8. Test the Mini Power Bank
a. Connect a device to the USB port and turn on the power switch. b. Verify that the device is charging.
9. Make Adjustments
a. If needed, adjust the position of components or make any necessary modifications.
10. Ready to Use
