DIY Club Project – Make a Leather Wallet
Introduction
Making a leather wallet is a simple and useful DIY project. With basic tools and a piece of leather, you can create a durable and stylish wallet. This DIY Club project is great for beginners who enjoy handmade crafts.
Materials Required
Leather sheet (1–2 mm thick)
Paper for template
Pencil
Sharp cutter or leather knife
Ruler
Leather glue
Needle and strong thread
Hole punch or awl
Step 1: Create a Template
Draw a simple wallet design on paper. A common wallet size is about 9 x 4 inches when open. Cut the paper template to guide your leather cutting.
Step 2: Cut the Leather
Place the template on the leather sheet and trace the shape using a pencil. Carefully cut the leather using a sharp cutter.
Step 3: Make Card Pockets
Cut smaller pieces of leather for card holders. Usually 2–3 pockets are enough for a simple wallet.
Step 4: Punch Stitching Holes
Use a hole punch or awl to create small holes along the edges where stitching will be done.
Step 5: Glue the Pieces
Apply a small amount of leather glue to hold the pockets in place before stitching.
Step 6: Stitch the Wallet
Use needle and strong thread to stitch around the edges. A saddle stitch works best for leather projects.
Step 7: Finish the Edges
Trim any rough edges and rub them with sandpaper for a smooth finish.
Final Result
Your handmade leather wallet is ready to use. You can also stamp your DIY Club logo on the leather to give it a unique brand identity.
