DIY Cotton Candy at Home

Cotton candy is one of those treats that instantly reminds you of funfairs and childhood. The good news is you don’t need a big machine to enjoy it at home. With just a few tools and ingredients, you can spin your own fluffy sweet clouds.

What you need

  • 1 cup sugar

  • ½ cup corn syrup

  • ¼ cup water

  • Food coloring (optional)

  • Vanilla or any flavor essence

  • A whisk or fork

  • A saucepan

  • Baking sheet lined with parchment paper

Steps

  1. Heat the sugar, corn syrup, and water in the saucepan on medium flame.

  2. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely.

  3. Once it boils, stop stirring. Let it heat until it reaches a sticky syrup stage.

  4. Add a drop of food color and a few drops of flavor. Mix gently.

  5. Dip the whisk into the hot syrup.

  6. Quickly drizzle the syrup over the baking sheet in thin strands. Move your hand back and forth fast.

  7. Gather the strands into fluffy bundles – that’s your homemade cotton candy.

Tips

  • Work fast because the syrup hardens quickly.

  • Be careful – the syrup is very hot.

  • You can use different colors and flavors to make it fun.

Serving ideas

  • Wrap in clear plastic bags.

  • Add as decoration on cakes.

  • Serve fresh for best texture.

Enjoy your homemade cotton candy! It’s a fun DIY project for kids and adults. If you want machine version steps, feel free to ask.
