Harissa is a rich and flavorful dish, especially popular in Middle Eastern and South Asian cuisine. This delicious dish is made with slow-cooked meat, wheat, and aromatic spices, resulting in a creamy, comforting meal.



Ingredients:

  • 1 cup wheat (soaked overnight)

  • 500g boneless mutton or chicken

  • 1/2 cup rice

  • 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste

  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder

  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder

  • 1 teaspoon black pepper powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala

  • 5 cups water

  • 4 tablespoons ghee or butter

  • Salt to taste

  • Fried onions and chopped coriander for garnish

Instructions:

Step 1: Cooking the Meat

  1. In a pot, heat 2 tablespoons of ghee and add the meat.

  2. Add ginger-garlic paste, salt, red chili powder, turmeric, and cumin powder.

  3. Cook until the meat is tender and fully cooked.

Step 2: Preparing the Wheat Mixture

  1. In another pot, cook the soaked wheat and rice in water until soft.

  2. Blend the mixture using a hand blender or mash well to create a thick consistency.

Step 3: Combining Everything

  1. Add the cooked meat to the wheat mixture and mix well.

  2. Cook on low heat, stirring continuously to prevent sticking.

  3. Add black pepper and garam masala for extra flavor.

  4. Let it simmer for 15-20 minutes until thick and smooth.

Step 4: Garnishing and Serving

  1. Heat the remaining ghee and drizzle over the Harissa.

  2. Garnish with fried onions and chopped coriander.

  3. Serve hot with naan or paratha and enjoy!
