Introduction:

Charging fans are great for emergency use, but in Pakistan’s extreme summer heat, they barely provide relief. In this DIY guide, we’ll show how to upgrade a basic charging fan into a cooling fan using a mini radiator setup — simple, cheap, and effective.

Materials Needed:


A standard charging fan (12V or 5V)


Mini radiator (used in PC water cooling or small DC radiator units)


Small submersible water pump (5V–12V)


Flexible silicone pipe


Plastic water tank (500ml–1L)


Switch & wires


12V battery or USB power bank (based on fan voltage)


Thermal glue or zip ties

Steps to Upgrade:


1. Fix the Radiator Behind the Fan:

Mount the mini radiator behind the fan grill using zip ties or screws. Ensure airflow passes through the radiator fins.



2. Install the Water Pump:

Connect the submersible pump to the water tank and link it to the radiator using flexible pipes.



3. Create Water Circulation:

Make a closed loop: water from the tank → pump → radiator → back to tank.



4. Power Connection:

Use a common 12V battery or USB power bank to run both fan and pump. You can use a single switch to turn both ON/OFF.



5. Test and Seal:

Power up the system and check water circulation. Seal any leaks in the pipe joints using glue or silicone tape.

Once active, the fan blows air through the water-cooled radiator, lowering the temperature by 3°C–6°C compared to the original fan — ideal for small rooms or desks.
